This role sits within a specialist technology team building an AI-enabled, autonomous banking platform for large global financial institutions.

The engineer builds, operates, and scales the services at the heart of the platform, spanning core banking, workflows, and compliance. These systems define financial products, manage accounts, execute and record money movement, orchestrate banking processes, and enforce regulatory requirements at enterprise scale.

The role requires deep experience with complex distributed systems, a correctness-first mindset, sound engineering judgment, and full end-to-end ownership—from system design through production operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Banking Platform Engineering

  • Build and evolve the capabilities that bring modern banking products to life, including products, accounts, transactions, transfers, journals, balances, interest calculations, durable workflows, and compliance controls.
  • Define reliable APIs, events, and data contracts that connect these capabilities into a coherent and auditable banking platform.

Production Ownership

  • Own services throughout their lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in on-call support and incident response, diagnosing failures across distributed services, data infrastructure, and event-driven workflows.
  • Establish effective observability, alerting, operational controls, and recovery procedures.
  • Use lessons from production incidents to improve reliability, performance, and operational maturity.

Architecture and Delivery

  • Design systems for correctness, auditability, scalability, and resilience at the scale required by major financial institutions.
  • Make pragmatic trade-offs among delivery speed, operational complexity, and long-term maintainability.
  • Improve engineering practices across automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, safe deployment, rollback, and recovery.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering, model-context tooling, agent-based workflows, and automated runbooks where they materially improve engineering or operational outcomes.
  • Strengthen team capability through knowledge sharing, mentoring, coaching, and the promotion of effective engineering practices.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES

Engineering Depth

  • Deep experience designing and building complex distributed systems at scale using a strongly typed, compiled programming language.
  • Experience with Go is preferred, although substantial expertise in a comparable language is welcome.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming technologies such as Kafka or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of concurrency, consistency, system invariants, idempotency, failure modes, and distributed-system trade-offs.

Production Experience

  • Substantial experience operating and debugging business-critical systems in production.
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations and responding to incidents across application, data, and infrastructure boundaries.
  • Practical experience with observability, reliability engineering, capacity planning, deployment safety, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, GitOps, and modern production-engineering practices.

Judgment and Communication

  • Strong practical judgment and the ability to assess and clearly communicate architectural trade-offs instead of applying technologies or patterns mechanically.
  • Ability to explain complex systems in simple, precise terms.
  • Ability to work effectively across software development, architecture, operations, and cross-team delivery.
  • Effective use of AI to amplify genuine engineering expertise, while maintaining human accountability for design, validation, security, and production outcomes.

IMPACT AND SCOPE

  • Direct impact on core banking capabilities delivered to and supported in production for large global financial institutions.
  • High autonomy and accountability within a small, experienced engineering team.
  • End-to-end ownership of mission-critical systems operating at enterprise scale.

WHY THIS ROLE

This opportunity combines the autonomy, ownership, and technical depth of a high-growth technology environment with the scale, resources, and long-term impact of an established global organization. Engineers in this role help shape foundational banking infrastructure while maintaining clear accountability for real-world production outcomes.
